Every May, we celebrate neighbourhood houses—and the people within them—with Neighbourhood House Week. Discover what your neighbourhood house has to offer through special events hosted from May 5-11, 2019.


Tuesday, May 7

Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House
800 East Broadway, Vancouver | Unceded Coast Salish Territory
Intergenerational Lunch, 12-1 p.m.
Join us for a healthy lunch with folks of all ages, with coffee and dessert for $5. Free for kids 5 & under. Meet new friends of all ages and backgrounds, and stay for all-ages BINGO (1-2 p.m.).

Family Drop In Garden Opening, 3:30-6:30 p.m.
This will be the grand opening of the garden for family programs! Admission is totally free. There will be gardening activities run by UBC students, and the famous smoothie bike will be out and about to entertain everyone. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. at the Neighbourhood House.

Resurfacing History focuses on developing a community process for promoting understanding of the land around us and in our communities. We will work together to build capacity for Indigenous communities to learn and practice land-based teachings.

All community members welcome to join in and explore knowledge to integrates actionable steps that can make social ecosystems and infrastructure work for the urban Indigenous families and community members.

Jane's Walk in Little Mountain, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Join Varouj and other community members on a walk on Main sharing our history and stories of place. We start at 21st and Main and end at the Riley Park Community Garden. We will join the Neighbour Lab group to hear about examples of resiliency in our community, including the Garden Shed and our renewable energy activities. Snacks are provided.

Resilient Neighbourhood Walk Series: Riley Park, 2-3 p.m.
Ever wonder how to prepare for an earthquake? Join Neighbour Lab for a free, family-friendly guided walk in the Riley Park neighbourhood. Featured on the walk is the Riley Park Garden Shed Renewable Energy Demo Project. Learn how you can get involved in future activities on the shed, including the Renewable Energy powered Automatic Irrigation system for the Espalier Orchard. On the walk, learn how you and your neighbours can prepare for and respond to earthquakes here in Vancouver and explore the strengths and opportunities found in your own backyard. The walk will meet at the Little Mountain Neighbourhood House at 2 p.m. and arrive at Riley Park by 3 p.m. to be followed by a short mapping activity as well as refreshments and resilient prizes!

Nanrats Community Celebration Demonstration, 7-11 p.m.
A rock show, raising money for AnJel shop at Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House—an ongoing project linking seniors with volunteers who help pick up and deliver their groceries!

4 local bands handpicked for your pleasure will be featured, and all of the proceeds will be donated ♥

Tickets are available at the door and are 12$ each for this ages 19+ event hosted at LanaLou’s.
